Organization of the Richland GOP

The Richland County Republican Party has a simple organization structure. Click here for a full copy of our Bylaws.

There are 110 precincts in our county. Each precinct has a group of officers (President, Vice President, County Committeeman, Secretary, Treasurer) elected to 2-year terms. The President and County Committeeman from each precinct sit on the County Executive Committee which meets monthly.

Precinct Organization

In September of non-election years (except for 2005), our 110 precincts hold “Precinct Reorganization Meetings” on a selected evening where we elect new precinct officers and delegates to the County Convention. These meetings are usually held on a Tuesday night at the traditional voting location for the precinct.

These meetings are VERY important because we collect current names and addresses of new Republicans in the area and identify potential volunteers and neighborhood leaders. This is also how you can become a delegate to the County Convention.

To learn when and where your Precinct Meeting will be held, stay tuned to this website and join our Email List.

The County Convention

On a Saturday in October of odd number years, about six weeks after the Precinct Reorganization Meetings, the Richland County Republican Party holds its biannual County Convention.

Delegates from each of the 110 precincts gather to hear from many of our elected officials as well as vote on resolutions, the Party Platform and elect county party officers including County Chairman, Vice Chairman, State Executive Committeeman and Treasurer. We also elect delegates to the upcoming State Convention.

The State Convention

The South Carolina Republican Party State Convention is held during the spring of even number years. The state convention is particularly important because, besides the normal business of electing state party officers and national convention delegates, we hear from the candidates from the upcoming primary elections which, by that time, are only a month or so away. It is very exciting!

The National Convention

Every two years, delegates from state conventions around the nation gather for the Republican Party National Convention at a selected city in America. During presidential election years the convention is nationally televised.
