The Richland County Republican Party
Non-Partisan Election Committee (NPEC)
In the 1980s many of our most important local elections (such as school
board and Columbia City Council) were shifted from traditional partisan
election to non-partisan formats. Since that time, it was the policy of
the Richland County Republican Party not to get directly involved in
these elections; this hands-off strategy failed. Moreover, our
opposition took the opposite approach and has been quite effective. So,
in 2005 the Executive Committee voted to create a subcommittee to
evaluate and recommend candidates in non-partisan elections.
